Cat people, I need some help.

My cat has a spot above his eye, on the top of his head, where the fur has thinned and some of it is gone. The skin there is very raw-looking, but it doesn’t seem to bother him. Even when I touch it, he doesn’t react in a way that would suggest it’s painful. I would say the spot is a little smaller than a nickel.
Does anyone know what this might be and what to do about it?
Okay so it may be a hot spot my dog used to have them although it itched him like crazy, but we basically took him to the vet and got some creme for it and shaved the spot. why don’t you just take your cat to the vet though because if it is serious it is only going to get worse.
